Last week on Thursday we met at Rossio station to take the train to Sintra. The mountains and the area around have their own micro climate, usually it is a little colder than in Lisbon and often there is fog in the air.
Walking from the station to the national palace, we learned about the history of Sintra. Once under Moorish rule, it turned into a summer residence for the Portuguese royal family. All over the municipality there are smaller and bigger residencies. Some of them were abandoned over the course of the last century, so not all are in as good shape as the National Palace of Sintra.
After the tour, we tried the local pastéis: Queijadas de Sintra. They are very delicious and a welcome change to all the Pastéis de Nata! Join our next tour, they are every Wednesday and free for students and friends of the school!
