Sintra is known as an enchanting Portuguese spot full of marvelous palaces, a ruinous castle, and other elegant residences. It is certainly one of the top tourist destinations of Portugal and deserves to be included in any journey across the country. The purpose of this article is to present an overview of the main tourist attractions of this wonderful place near Lisbon.

Palácio Nacional de Sintra
This gothic palace is located in the heart of Sintra and was the most visited royal palace of the whole country. It has a very convenient position within the center of Sintra and was constructed on the site of an ancient Moorish castle. The rooms are amazingly decorated with brilliant painting and the interior style is base on strong Arabic influences.

Castelo dos Mouros
The Moors Castle is a restored castle set in the middle of the forests of Sintra which offers tourists and local people wonderful views over the region. It dates from the 9th century and was built by the North Africa Moors to protect the lands of Sintra.

Quinta da Regaleira
It’s a 19th-century extravagant gothic mansion built by the once richest man of Portugal. The principal attractions of the place are the elegant gardens which are also provided with an impressive tunnel system. Hidden throughout the grounds are secretive religious symbols, concealed gardens, and other mysterious objects.

Palácio da Pena
This worthy palace was commissioned, in 1842, by King Ferdinand II who was passionate about literature, music, and arts. Its interior reminds the last days of the Portuguese monarchy. Many of the original features and decorative furniture still remain in the same locations almost untouched for 100 years.

Parque Nacional da Pena
This park is a stunning surrounding of the Pena Palace in Sintra. Across the park, it is possible to have several nice walks through forests and gardens full of plants, flowers, and a maze made of trees. The highest summit of the Serra de Sintra is a pleasant walk of less than half an hour. From that sport, you may have the opportunity to take wonderful panoramic pictures.
