What is CIPLE?

Why take a CIPLE exam?

The CIPLE exam corresponds to an A2.2 level and is a requirement to obtain Portuguese citizenship. Therefore, if you are planning to become a permanent resident in Portugal or a Portuguese citizen, this is the exam you have to take.

How is the CIPLE exam structured?

This exam certifies that the student is capable of interacting and solving day-to-day situations.

The CIPLE exam comprises different parts:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Writing production
  • Listening comprehension
  • Speaking production

CAPLE Exams

CAPLE (Evaluation Center of Portuguese as a Foreign Language) offers several exams at different levels, from A1 to C2, following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. These exams are a requirement for professional, academic, and university purposes.

What are the different CAPLE exams?

  1. A1 level – Acesso (Certificate of Access to Portuguese) – for students 12-15 years old
  2. A2 level – CIPLE (Inicial Certificate of Portuguese as a Foreign Language)
  3. B1 level – DEPLE (Elementary Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language)
  4. B2 level – DIPLE (Intermediate Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language)
  5. C1 level – DAPLE (Advance Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language)
  6. C2 level – DUPLE (University Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language)
